Ronald Chan is the Co-founder and Managing Partner of Chartwell Family Partners. He is also the Founder and CIO of Chartwell Capital.
Ronald holds multiple roles across public and corporate appointments, serving as a board member of the Financial Services Development Council of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Academy for Wealth Legacy. He is also a committee member of the Listing Committee and the Public Shareholders Group at the Securities and Futures Commission of Hong Kong. Additionally, he serves as an Independent Non-Executive Director for Hong Kong Ferry Holdings, Lee & Man Paper Manufacturing Limited, and Powerlong Commercial Management Holdings.
Beyond his professional responsibilities, Ronald serves as the President of the Education Development Foundation Association, a non-profit organization established by his family in 1995 that provides grants for scholarships and other educational programs.
He is also an Honorary Advisor to Yan Oi Tong (YOT), one of the largest philanthropic organizations in Hong Kong. YOT was initiated by his grandfather in the 1930s and formally established as a non-profit organization by his father, the late Chan Yat San, in 1977. YOT delivers social, educational, medical, sports, and recreational services to the local community. In 2022, Ronald co-founded the Melting Pot Foundation with his wife, Jacinth. The foundation focuses on youth programs aimed at cultivating Hong Kong’s future innovators, collaborators, and leaders.
Ronald graduated from the Stern School of Business at New York University, where he earned Bachelor of Science degrees in Finance and Accounting. He remains actively involved with his alma mater as the Vice President of the university’s Pan-Asia Alumni Committee. Additionally, he serves as a member of the Board of Trustees at Malvern College in Hong Kong and Worcester Academy in Massachusetts, U.S.A.
Samuel Wu is the Co-founder and Managing Partner of Chartwell Family Partners, where he focuses on the education, real estate, technology and media sectors.
Samuel currently serves as the Executive Director of Babylon Education Limited, the Asia-Pacific partner of Malvern College, an independent British boarding school with six campuses in Chengdu, Qingdao, Hong Kong and Tokyo. He also serves as a member of the International Council of the National University of Singapore Young Yoo Lin School of Medicine, and as an Adjunct Assistant Professor for the University of Hong Kong Business School.
Samuel worked for his family business as the Head of Operations Division and Head of Corporate Communications for Wing Lung Bank, where he was a key member in the sale of the family’s controlling share of the bank to China Merchants Bank in September 2008, and later the integration of both banks. He also led the family office in redevelopment of key family property holdings and the subsequent divestiture of assets.
Prior to that, he was the assistant to the Country Operating Officer for Citigroup Corporate and Investment Bank in Greater China and Citigroup Global Markets Asia Pacific region, and a graduate of its Management Associate program.
Samuel received his Executive MBA degree from Northwestern University Kellogg School of Management and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and Bachelor of Arts in Economics and East Asian Studies from New York University.
Melissa Fok is a Partner of Chartwell Family Partners. An accomplished and passionate designer who received her formal education at the Parsons School of Design in New York, it was during her studies that she discovered her true calling in jewelry design. After pursuing a Graduate Gemologist degree at the Gemological Institute of America, she embarked on an inspiring journey to establish her own jewelry brand, No. Thirty Three Joaillerie, which has since garnered a dedicated following.
Drawing inspiration from her aesthetical sense and family values, Melissa’s designs beautifully merge these two realms. She has a special focus on capturing the essence of familial celebrations and preserving the legacy of family heirlooms. Each piece she creates tells a unique story, evoking emotions and memories that resonate with her clients.
Aside from jewelry design, Melissa’s commitment to social responsibility is carrying forward from her family’s philanthropic legacy. Through private charity initiatives and under the Fok Ying Tung Foundation Limited, she has made substantial contributions over the years to improve the lives of the underprivileged, by addressing their specific needs and providing timely supports.
Mahesh Harilela serves as a Partner of Chartwell Family Partners. With an entrepreneurial spirit, he has been involved in creating and developing companies such as general trading, renewable energy, infrastructure, agriculture and education. He runs his own family investment firm, M. Harilela Global Investments Ltd., which currently has exposure to blockchain technology, aviation and hospitality. With a strong passion for sustaining family legacies through his involvement in succession planning, his philosophy has always been “to keep the door open” and to listen to and engage in different ideas.
Mahesh chairs the KGV School’s Strategic Development Committee and is the Commercial Liaison Officer for the Honorary Consul of The Republic of Maldives in Hong Kong. He also actively initiates conversations by hosting talks on current affairs and business ethos for his alma mater, the Pepperdine University’s Alumni Club in Asia.
Alex (Ekachai) Jiaravanont is a Partner of Chartwell Family Partners. Based in Hong Kong, he serves as Vice President of Chia Tai Bright Group Company Limited, a subsidiary of Thailand’s CP Group that is majority-owned by the Chearavanont family. He is also a key member of Chairman Soopakij Chearavanont’s strategic “war room,” where he handles both core and non-core investments and business opportunities.
In addition to his professional work, Alex has personally invested in various technology and biotech companies, including Forevercheer Holdings, a pharmaceutical company that produces a revolutionary analgesic drug.
He earned his bachelor’s degree in Arts and Sciences from the University of Pennsylvania and a Master of Architecture degree from Harvard University. After practicing architecture for ten years in New York and Hong Kong, Alex now applies his expertise in the field to make socially responsible investments that contribute to building a better world.
Jonathan Zeman is a Partner of Chartwell Family Partners. He is Chief Executive Officer of the Lan Kwai Fong Group, a diversified property development company with business interests in commercial & residential property, resorts, hospitality and entertainment in Asia. He has over 25 years’ experience working in Greater China and leads a creative and diverse team of over 400 professionals distributed through offices in Hong Kong SAR, Mainland China and Thailand.
Since becoming CEO, Mr. Zeman has led various property development, redevelopment and hospitality projects for the Group in addition to leading the Group’s leasing and marketing initiatives.
Under his leadership the Lan Kwai Fong Group has become one of the leading experts in leisure and entertainment property development in Asia. The Group portfolio includes projects in Hong Kong and various cities in China as well as award winning projects in Phuket and Phang Nga, Thailand.

Mr. Zeman is a dynamic, well informed, creative thinker who has lived in Hong Kong for over 40 years. Born and raised in Hong Kong and a graduate of New York University, Chloe has experienced both Asian and Western cultures, shaping her ability to bridge diverse perspectives and foster meaningful connections that drive positive change. During the COVID-19 pandemic, when the world was in lockdown, she began cultivating a community on social media. Her work focuses on lifestyle wellness, encompassing mental, physical, and social health. With the growing importance of mental health awareness, Chloe’s mission is to make self-love tangible. Daniel Jim serves as a Senior Adviser of Chartwell Family Partners, with his main responsibility being strategic asset allocation and external manager selection.
Daniel has been an allocator for single family offices and institutional investors for over 20 years, with a special focus in hedge funds and alternative investment strategies. He is a pioneer in Asia in global hedge fund selection, with conducted due diligence on over 6,000 managers and allocated to more than 100 of them since the early 2000s.
Daniel has also been devoting much of his time in breeding Hong Kong’s next generation of investment talents, having been a lecturer at the HKSI Institute since 2002 as well as the Hong Kong Metropolitan University since 2019. He also serves as a Non-Governmental Adviser to the Competition Commission of Hong Kong since 2022, advising on matters related to the financial services sector.
Daniel holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and a Master in International Economics and Management from SDA Bocconi in Milan, Italy. He speaks Cantonese, Mandarin and English.
Sacha Yasumoto is the co-founder of the Yasumoto Scholarship Foundation. Together with her husband, Alex Yasumoto, she identifies and supports students from different universities, helping them pursue their chosen passions around the world.
With a BA in Interior Design from the White House Institute in Sydney, Sacha has become an advocate and patron of the arts, organizing events for corporate-led associations. Her latest project has expanded her creative endeavors into photography, focusing on identifying and documenting abandoned heritage sites. Her passion for documenting disappearing residences stems from her desire to preserve history and keep it alive for future generations. She has participated in various photo exhibitions, including a solo exhibition at the Asia Society.
Ronald Chan founded Chartwell Capital in 2007 and currently serves as Chief Investment Officer and Co-Portfolio Manager. As CIO, he steers the firm’s investment strategy. As Co-Portfolio Manager, he oversees stock selection and portfolio allocation.
A frequent contributor to Bloomberg Opinion and Financial Times Chinese, Ronald is an adjunct professor for the MBA program at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and the author of two books: Behind the Berkshire Hathaway Curtain: Lessons from Warren Buffett’s Top Business Leaders in 2010, and The Value Investors: Lessons from the World’s Top Fund Managers in 2012 and 2021 (second edition).
Ronald served as a member of the Listing Committee Panel of The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited from 2016 to 2022. Since his appointment in 2018 by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, he has served as a member of the Greater Bay Area Committee: Smart City and Digital Connectivity Task Force. Since 2019, he has served as an Independent Non-Executive Director for Powerlong Commercial Management Holdings Ltd. He has also been an international committee member of the Hong Kong M+ Museum and a founding member of the Hong Kong Biotech Development Council of the Hong Kong Science and Technology Park since 2020. Ronald has been the Vice President of the Education Development Foundation Association in Hong Kong since 2005.
